We have had a wonderful week in the forest this week and the joy of a lovely new Little Forest Folk-er join us from Singapore. We have been winding down towards the end of term and we are eagerly looking forward to the grand end of year Picnic and Graduation Party.
Our caterpillars have grown from being tiny, 3mm long, to rather large, chubby, 5cm long caterpillars in a week. They have now turned into chrysalises and we are watching them as they quietly hang, patiently waiting for them to turn into butterflies over the next 7-14 days
We have all been on a variety of bear hunts this week, both texturally walking bare foot through swishy grass, gloopy mud, cool water, soft snow (cotton wool balls) and literally making our way through the forest through areas of grass, mud, water, etc to a cave with a bear hidden inside. We have also been learning, talking, expressing and experiencing our emotions during our bear hunt. Would we be sad? scared? happy? before, during or after any sections in the bear hunt.
We had a lovely time with some windfall apples creating crowns and creatures using small sticks to connect the apples together. Water and ice play is a large part of our summer activities too, keeping us cool as we learn the physics of gravity, science of freezing and melting and why do things float and sink?
Friendships are growing as the children share and play together, developing their social and emotional skills as they play and interacting ebbs and flows throughout the day.
Thank you all for coming to the forest.
